Tuning

In Southern Ontario, it's generally a good idea to have your piano tuned at the end of fall and/or beginning of spring. Because of seasonal humidity and temperature fluctuations, the wooden frame of your piano will expand and contract and slowly drift out of tune. If you are moving, we recommend waiting a few weeks after your move to allow the piano time to adjust to its new environment. If you have a new piano you'll find that you may benefit from tuning your piano more frequently since new piano wires are more elastic and will stretch when pulled to the right pitch. We also check the compaction of the felt on the hammers. The level of force used to strike the keys will impact the gradual decline in tonal quality as the felt on the hammers of the piano will compact from repeatedly striking the strings.
